Great neighborhood tavern. Good food and great service. Not what I would have expected in Lake Forest, but I'll be stopping again.

Service was great. It's just a typical Pub type of bar, I gave them four stars because they did have a baked potato as a side instead of just fries. Not many vegan choices so I had the spinach salad with the side for baked potato.

This place is just perfect if you want to stop in for a quick bite to eat or grab a beer. Good local beers on tap and fun tasty dishes to choose from. Staff was very friendly and food was quick. You can really feel the local love in this place. This was my second time but I'll be back again soon!

Everything was okay. Nothing spectacular. Good local sports pub. I would probably return but wouldn't recommend as a must visit.

The Lantern is an older crowd, and it seems like everyone knows everyone. It's one of the most Cheers-like bars that I've been in. I only had two craft beers, and they were well poured and tasty. Seems a friendly place. The guy next to me ordered some chicken tacos and they smelled great!

We stopped at another Lake Forest institution and they were completely full so we returned to The Lantern. The bar area was crowded but there were plenty of open tables in the dining area. We asked them to put on the Illinois vs UConn game (playing terrible now, wah-wah!). We split a half order of onion straws -- if this is a half-order I can't imagine a full order -- which were thin and crispy. My companion ordered a burger which they enjoyed with avocado. My salmon sandwich was perfect -- the large piece was grilled to the right amount of doneness -- and went well with crispy tater tots. The food was fine! I'd say the interior could do with some updating. There were several small TVs in the bar area (yours at home are larger) and the floor sounded sticky. But it seems The Lantern is a tradition, so perhaps they are right to keep this as a time capsule frozen in the 70/80s? As I said, the food is fine!

Came by on Wednesday December 27th. Had 2 beers. Bells Amber and Revolution Fistmas. Also ordered a burger came with fries. Came in the middle of day around 3:30 to 4. Some older gentleman watching Jeopardy like 50s 60s. And a younger couple. The decor is full of Chicago sports stuff and thought the toy train going around the circuit was pretty neat. The cheeseburger was a nice amount of meat. Thought it could have been seasoned with little more vigor. I'm curious what it's like at other points in the year like maybe when the college is in session.
